Pan-African Youth Organization Celebrates 20 Years of Empowering Young Leaders

Gold Youth, a leading Pan-African organization, is marking its 20th anniversary of empowering young Africans to break the cycle of poverty and foster sustainable change across the continent. Over the past two decades, Gold Youth has successfully unlocked the potential of youth in South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). With plans to expand its reach to more African nations by 2032, the organization is committed to equipping young people to tackle some of Africa’s most pressing social and economic challenges.

Reflecting on its transformative journey, Gold Youth has empowered over 127,000 young Africans to step into leadership roles, innovate socially, and launch entrepreneurial ventures. The organization aims to further amplify its impact in the coming decade, strengthening its mission to catalyze youth-driven change across the continent.

Since its inception, Gold Youth has achieved significant milestones:

  • 90,000 peer educators trained and mentored
  • 35,000 peers trained by these educators
  • 4,000 jobs and micro-businesses directly facilitated since 2015

“I am grateful to Gold Youth for giving me the tools and confidence to take ownership of my life,” said Candice, a graduate of the program. “They helped me realize my worth, empowering me to start my own business and become an independent, self-assured young woman.”

Youth Impact Indicators from 2018 to 2023 highlight remarkable outcomes:

  • 29% increase in school performance and education commitment
  • 93% pass rate compared to the national average of 73%
  • 49% increase in employability
  • 43% reduction in age-related youth risk behavior
  • 74% increase in awareness of food system opportunities
  • 47% increase in leadership and community upliftment

“At Gold Youth, we believe that Africa’s future lies in the hands of its youth,” said Susannah Farr, founder and CEO of Gold Youth. “Through our innovative model, we transform passive recipients of societal challenges into proactive change-makers, equipping them to take control of their futures.”

Gold Youth’s impactful approach includes embedding peer mentors into schools and communities, fostering essential skills in leadership, education, and micro-entrepreneurship. This methodology has encouraged self-sufficiency and created pathways to economic independence for thousands of young Africans.

“Our success is rooted in strong partnerships,” Farr noted. “By collaborating strategically, we ensure our programs align with national development goals in the countries we serve.”

As Gold Youth sets its sights on the future, it is committed to its ambitious goal of developing 10 million young African leaders by 2032, transforming them into architects of sustainable, community-led change.

“The next 20 years promise to be even more impactful. We will refine and expand our model to ensure that underserved communities across Africa have access to essential tools and mentorship for leadership and innovation,” Farr added.

As the organization celebrates a generation of youth-led change, it invites stakeholders across Africa and the global diaspora to join in advancing this vision.
