Qatar Grants Visa Waiver to Rwandans, Strengthening Ties Between the Two Nations

Big news for Rwandan travelers! Qatar has just announced that Rwandans holding ordinary passports will no longer need a visa to visit the country. This exciting move was approved by Qatar’s Cabinet on February 12, 2025.

The waiver allows Rwandan citizens to stay in Qatar for up to 30 days without a visa, making it easier for both nations to strengthen their business, tourism, and cultural connections.

This agreement comes as part of the ongoing efforts to deepen the relationship between Rwanda and Qatar. The visa waiver was one of the key outcomes of Rwandan President Paul Kagame’s official visit to Qatar. During his trip, President Kagame met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to discuss ways to improve cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders talked about exciting opportunities in trade, tourism, and sports. Rwanda and Qatar are exploring ways to work together on growing sports in Africa, including Rwanda’s hosting of the 2025 UCI World Championships and the famous Tour du Rwanda.

Rwanda’s Ambassador to Qatar, Igor Marara, also met with sports officials in Qatar to discuss future collaborations, especially in sports training and education.

In addition to the visa waiver, President Kagame’s visit highlighted ongoing partnerships in infrastructure. Qatar is currently helping fund major projects in Rwanda, like the new Bugesera International Airport, and both countries are committed to working together on future developments.

The visit also included important discussions on aviation security, with Qatar’s government setting up a new committee to improve the safety of civilian flights.

This visit marks a big step forward in the strong and growing relationship between Rwanda and Qatar, with both countries excited about the future.
