President Kagame to Open 2nd Inclusive Fintech Forum in Kigali

President Paul Kagame will open the second Inclusive Fintech Forum in Kigali. The event will take place from February 24 to 26, 2025. It will bring together leaders from various sectors, including business, government, and finance.

On February 18, 2025, the forum’s official social media pages shared the news that President Kagame will attend. They wrote, “We are excited to announce that President Paul Kagame will open the second edition of the Inclusive Fintech Forum in Kigali from February 24-26, 2025.”

The forum will gather leaders from government, the private sector, investors, and financial regulators. They will discuss how technology can help boost the economy and improve access to financial services for more people.

The forum’s goal is to create partnerships and find solutions that make financial services more accessible. The organizers hope to drive forward the future of financial technology, or Fintech, and increase its reach. They shared, “Let’s work together to build valuable partnerships and expand access to finance through technology.”

Mene Wamkele, the Secretary General  of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), will also speak at the forum. He will focus on the importance of collaboration between government leaders, innovators, and industry heads to help drive economic development through Fintech.

Fintech is growing quickly in emerging markets, offering services much faster than traditional banking. Currently, 65% of people without bank accounts globally are using mobile phones to make payments and transfer money.

The first Inclusive Fintech Forum in Kigali, held in 2023, focused on improving how financial services are provided. The discussions included investing in infrastructure and making these services more affordable and accessible for all.

This year, the forum will continue to focus on building cashless economies and exploring how technology can improve financial services. Rwanda is already leading the way by working towards a cashless society, showing how technology can make financial services available to more people.
