The 2026 Tour du Rwanda concluded March 1 after eight grueling stages covering 978 kilometers, delivering one of the most competitive editions in recent years. The race drew 18 teams from around the world and showcased high levels of skill, endurance, and participation.
German cyclist Moritz Kretschy of the NSN Development Team emerged as the overall winner, despite not winning a single stage.
On Monday, Feb. 2, Rwanda’s Minister of Sports took to social media to thank Rwandans who followed the race, both along the roads and through national television broadcasts.
“Thank you very much! To all of you across the country on the roads, and those following on RBA and other media platforms, thank you for encouraging the riders, engaging with them, and promoting cycling. You have shown extraordinary love and enthusiasm. We are grateful,” the minister said.
He also praised the race’s sponsors and partners, as well as the athletes and coaches, for their dedication in ensuring the event ran smoothly.
“As we conclude the Tour du Rwanda 2026, we sincerely thank the riders for their strength, dedication, and good conduct during the competition. We especially thank the partners and sponsors who contributed to ensure that this Tour went smoothly and achieved its goals. Together, let us continue to promote sports in Rwanda,” he said.
