Rwandan Youth Complete Technology Training, Gain Skills for Job Market

Twenty young men and women from across Rwanda have completed a six-month technology training program, joining a growing group of youth turning tech knowledge into practical solutions.

The program, led by VTLabs Group in partnership with the Rwanda TVET Board and supported by the Skills Development Fund, focused on electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Graduates received certificates qualifying them for the job market with hands-on skills in building and testing embedded systems and developing technology projects.

Byamana Jules, one of the graduates, said the training changed his perspective on self-employment. “Before, I saw electronics only in books. Now I can build a simple internet-based system to monitor my home remotely, adjusting temperature as needed. My goal is to start my own business,” he said.

MAISHA Aline said the program boosted her confidence to compete in the job market. “We learned how to turn ideas into projects and present them publicly. I want to expand my tech knowledge and create solutions that solve community problems,” she said.

Parents have noticed changes in their children. KWIZERA Jean Pierre said, “This is not ordinary training. Our children have learned skills that can help them earn a living. We thank the government and partners for investing in our youth.”

Bimenyimana Christian, a teacher and innovation coordinator at the school, said the focus is not just on certificates but on training problem solvers. “We teach students to identify challenges in their community or market, analyze them using electronics and IoT, and develop valuable solutions,” he said.

School Director Rutagengwa Raul highlighted the importance of collaboration between training institutions and government agencies in promoting skills-based education. He said the program aims to equip graduates to create jobs, join tech industries, or continue higher education.

“The completion of this program gives hope that these young people will help address labor market challenges, particularly in Rwanda’s growing technology sector,” he said.
